Airien Ludin is an Indonesian illustrator based in Providence, Rhode Island.
Growing up surrounded by Indonesian culture—watching her father’s theater performances and admiring her mother’s textile collection—she developed a deep love for storytelling. Books, films, animation, became a way for her to connect with others. Because of this, she aspires to create narratives that foster interactivity and meaningful conversations about our everday lives.
Her creative journey has led her to exploring various artistic disciplines, from studying graphic design, illustrating picture books and concept art, teaching, and also delving into archiving for an art gallery. At the heart of it all, she seeks collaborative environments. Through her belief that art is a cycle of communication that bridges and connects people.
Her book, Loose Threads, won the silver medal for the Key Colours Competition of 2022 and was published by Clavis Publishing in Europe and North America the following year, marking the start of her journey as an author/illustrator.
Outside of her creative practice, she spends her free time with her two pet cockatiels, and always ready to watch a movie or watch a gaming stream.
Airien aims to explore new genres and collaborative fields in storytelling. She is currently pursuing her MFA in Illustration at the Rhode Island School of Design, expanding her practice even further.
