Airien Ludin is an Illustrator from Indonesia based in Providence, Rhode Island.
As a child, she was surrounded by Indonesian culture—watching her father’s theater performances, and looking through her mother’s collection of textiles—and grew up dreaming of telling stories. Narratives, of books, films, and animation, became a way for her to connect with the people around her. She aspires to cultivate interactivity through storytelling, leading to thoughtful conversations about our everyday lives.
Throughout her creative journey, she explored different disciplines in art. Studying graphic design, illustrating picture books and concept art, teaching workshops, and then delving into archives for a fine arts gallery. Collaboration and idea exchange are at the heart of it. She believes that art, at its core, is the communication that happens because of it.
Her book, Loose Threads, won the silver medal for the Key Colours Competition of 2022 and was published by Clavis Publishing the following year, marking the start of her journey as an author/illustrator.
She wants to create more stories in the future, branching into different genres and collaborative fields. Currently, she is pursuing her MFA at the Rhode Island School of Design.
